Bryngwyn Pupils All Fired Up!

Nine Bryngwyn pupils, all girls, were recently invited to participate in a 5-day Course held at Llanelli Fire Station.

The Phoenix Project is a Fire and Rescue Initiative aimed at young people and this is the first time this Course has consisted of all girls.  It challenges existing attitudes and promotes independent thinking in young people by using Fire Service activities to develop personal attributes such as working as a team, exploring physical and mental limits and promoting and educating young people about the role of the Fire and Rescue Service.

During the 5 days, the pupils engaged in Fire and Rescue Service activities such as hose running, using ladders and search and rescue.  The week culminated in a demonstration of skills and presentation of certificates in front of an invited audience of family and friends.  The girls all agreed that they left the project with a new found sense of confidence, pride and self-worth.
