Ysgol Bryngwyn to Celebrate Shwmae Day!

Shwmae Su'mae? Day is a golden opportunity to celebrate the Welsh language through the ways we greet each other in Welsh in our communities.  It will also be an opportunity to support and encourage the efforts of all who are currently learning Welsh.

To celebrate 'Diwrnod Shwmae' in Ysgol Bryngwyn we will be holding a series of events throughout the day on Friday 17th October

  • Pupils will be allowed to wear tops in the Welsh colours (Red, White and Green) along with normal school trousers /skirts. Donations of 50p per pupil will go towards trips/activities to support bilingualism in school as well as a local charity.
  • The canteen will be serving a Welsh-themed menu. Pupils will be encouraged to speak Welsh with the canteen staff.
  • We will be holding a ‘Tocyn Iaith’ competition throughout the day with prizes for the most Welsh spoken in each year group.
  • Welsh bingo in the drama hall at lunchtime for pupils and staff.
  • Welsh music on the tannoy system prior to morning registration, at break time and at lunchtime.
  • Departments will be encouraged to use as much Welsh during the day as possible and hold Welsh-themed lessons.
  • The Urdd will be holding activities during the lunch hour and hopefully there will be a guest appearance from Mr Urdd!

Please encourage your son/daughter to join in the fun on this important landmark day.
