Bryngwyn's Cycling Star Joe Holt Gains Selection for British Olympic Cycling Talent Team

Yr 10 Bryngwyn Pupil Joe Holt Gains Selection For British Olympic Cycling Talent Team

Bryngwyn’s cycling star Joe Holt has had an exceptional year during 2012.  The races he has competed in have varied immensely, from 4-day stage races and shorter town centre circuit races on the road to sprint and endurance races on the track.  Joe has also recently competed in the Welsh Hill Climb Championship which involved individual riders being timed over a course which climbed over the Black Mountains.  Joe, although competing as a Youth rider (under 16), beat all the Junior riders (under 18) to become Welsh Junior Champion at the age of just 14.

Early in the ‘road season’, Joe quickly gained dispensation from the Welsh Cycling Governing Body to race against Senior riders up to Elite Level.  Joe quickly found his feet, winning Senior races and gaining top ten placings against Elite riders.  Joe’s best achievement this season against Senior competition came recently at an Elite Level Criterium in Rhyl, where he gained an incredible 4th place, outsprinting riders from British Professional Teams.

With this year’s impressive results behind him, Joe applied for the 2013 Great Britain Olympic Talent Team and made it to selection day, along with 18 of the best under-16 cyclists in the UK.  The selection process took place at the Headquarters of British Cycling in the National Velodrome in Manchester where tests included scientific power output measurements on a specialist static cycle and timed events on the velodrome, where Joe produced the fastest times over all distances.

These results, along with his overall commitment, determination and positive attitude have now gained Joe a place on the British Olympic Talent Team that recognises riders who show the potential to compete and win at world level.
