Bryngwyn's Young Business Dragons Set the Wheels in Motion at Owens Transport!

Bryngwyn’s Young Business Dragons paid a recent visit to Owens Transport as part of their preparation for the Grand Final of the Swansea Bay Young Dragons Competition which is to be held at Ffos Las on Friday 16th November.  The team will pitch their business idea of providing a mobile laundry service to the festival market to the panel of judges.

The team, resplendent in their ‘hi-viz’ jackets and ‘Washpit’ polo shirts, were shown around the Company’s depot in Dafen where they gained an invaluable insight into the haulage sector of the business world.

Mr Ian Jarman, Environmental and Legislation Manager, very kindly gave the team an hour of his time to answer questions and discuss the logistics of kitting out a lorry with washing machines, tumble dryers, etc.  He complimented them on their idea, which he thought was brilliant and explained to them the practicalities of carrying water storage tanks/filtration units and a power generator on board.  The team also explored the question of sponsorship and the opportunity to sell advertising space on their vehicle.

Another subject which was looked into in detail was the cost aspect of the whole project, including fuel costs, hiring of the lorry/driver or, in the long-term, the purchase of a vehicle.  The team all agreed that, following the visit,  they felt confident to answer any questions on the transport aspect of their project which might be asked by the judges during their presentation at the Final.

To round off their visit, the pupils, along with teacher Mrs Julia Hughes, were given the opportunity to climb up into the cab of a brand new lorry for a photo shoot!

Bryngwyn School would like to thank all at Owens Transport for their help and advice and we wish the team the very best of luck in the Grand Final on Friday 16th November.
