Bryngwyn to Celebrate 'Shwmae Day' - Thursday 15th October 2015

Ysgol Bryngwyn will be celebrating ‘Shwmae’ Day on Thursday, 15th October, 2015.

Shwmae Su'mae? Day is a golden opportunity to celebrate the Welsh language through the ways we greet each other in Welsh in our communities. It is also an opportunity to support and encourage the efforts of all of our pupils who are learning Welsh.

The Welsh language belongs to everyone in Wales both Welsh speakers and learners. We can all use the language everywhere - in school, in the shop, youth club, at work in our community and with friends.

To celebrate ‘DIWRNOD SHWMAE’ in Ysgol Bryngwyn, we will be holding a series of events throughout the day:

  • Pupils will be allowed to wear tops in the Welsh colours (red, white and green) along with normal school trousers /skirts.
  • MENTER IAITH will be giving a presentation and holding a Welsh themed quiz for those pupils who have Welsh lessons on that day.
  • The canteen will be serving a Welsh-themed menu. Pupils will be encouraged to speak Welsh with the canteen staff. The Food Technology department will be making and selling SHWMAE cupcakes.
  • We will be holding a ‘TOCYN IAITH’ competition throughout the day with prizes for the most Welsh spoken in each year group.
  • There will be Welsh bingo in the drama hall at lunchtime for pupils and staff with prizes for winners
  • Welsh music will be played on the tannoy system prior to morning registration, at break time and at lunchtime.
  • Departments will be encouraged to use as much Welsh during the day as possible and hold Welsh-themed lessons. The Maths department will be holding Welsh numeracy lessons.
  • The Urdd will be holding activities during the lunch hour including a guest appearance from Mr Urdd and a chance to have you picture taken with him!! Hopefully, a Scarlets player or two will turn up to hold an impromptu training and Q&A session with pupils.

Please encourage your son/daughter to join in the fun on this important landmark day. Follow us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/mudiadau?fref=ts), Twitter (@Dathlu_Cymraeg /  @shwmaesumae),and visit the website  (www.dathlu.org).
