First Wins of 2014 Season for Joe Holt

In his first full outing for British Cycling’s Olympic Development Programme (ODP), Year 11 pupil Joe Holt has shown selectors that his inclusion within the team has been more than justified.

Following on from an impressive season last year for the Olympic Talent Team Team and Wales, Joe has begun to showcase his ability on the next rung of the Olympic ladder, in what is his first full season as a Junior.

Forming part of a 4 man endurance team track squad, representing Great Britain at the International Junior Track Meeting in Apeldoorn, Holland last week, Joe returned with two gold medals and impressive placings in the other races entered.

As part of the four man team pursuit they registered a time of 4mins 17secs to take first place - a massive eight seconds ahead of the second placed team. Their time was three seconds ahead of their target and five ahead of last year’s British Cycling ODP.

In what was an action packed weekend of racing for Joe and the team, he also won the points race and finished second overall in the Derny Race, fifth overall in the Madison and fifth overall in the Elimination Race.

This will be Joe’s first year in the Junior ranks and with this display in his first races at that level, against some of the best riders in the world, some of whom are nearly two years older, it’s been an excellent start!
