Year 9 Trip to the National Botanical Gardens of Wales

The Biology Department took 62 Year 9 pupils to the National Botanical Gardens of Wales on Wednesday 16th March, during British Science Week, to learn about Pollution and Bio indicators.
The programme, for the day, involved a number of activities including completing an air survey on lichens. They also learned about the wildlife that is found in ponds by taking part in a pond dipping activity and then completing a survey of the animals they found. The results of the surveys will be input into the National Opal Surveys online.
The final part if the day was a self-led trail where the pupils explored the gardens and completed a 'How Green is the Garden?' activity booklet where they learned about sustainability, energy, food, pollinators waste, materials, water, plants and nature.
