2012 – The best ever results for Bryngwyn School in a Year of Outstanding Inspection Success

Faster, higher, stronger…..

An Olympic year inspires our pupils to great feats of achievement!

  • The whole school community is overjoyed with our best ever results at KS4 following on from an excellent inspection report.
  • Outstanding GCSE results are accompanied by record successes in Essential/Key Skills and the Welsh Baccalaureate.
  • In our initial analysis 76% of students (nearly 8 out of 10 pupils) achieved the Level 2 Threshold of 5 GCSEs at A*to C grade or equivalent. A truly Olympian effort that reflects the excellent grades achieved in Standards/Outcomes in the recent Estyn inspection report.
  • Ten pupils achieve 104 grades at A* or A grades, topping the podium of achievement at Bryngwyn. Our highest achieving pupils were; Hannah Davies (11 A*’s), Sarah Hicks (11 A*’s and 1 B), Cieran Grove (8A*’s and 3 A’s) and Curtis Young (8A*’s and 3 A’s).
  • Boys’ performance continues to exceed National levels and buck the National trend.
  • 94% achieved the Full Welsh Baccalaureate Diploma.
  • 19 subjects achieve 100% pass rate reflecting an inspection that stated: “the school provides a wide range of learning experiences that effectively meet the needs of pupils across the ability range.”
  • Welsh, identified as an excellent feature of the school in inspection, continues to break new ground with over 7 out of 10 pupils achieving A* to C grades and  with over a quarter of all pupils obtaining an A* or A grade – ardderchog!
  • Staff at Bryngwyn are incredibly proud of the fantastic achievements of our pupils and would like to wish them every success whatever their plans for the future.

Paul Jones the Headteacher commented “I would like to praise the amazing efforts of all pupils and parents in giving their wholehearted support to the school during and exceptional year. Staff have gone the extra mile to give the pupils every opportunity to fulfil and in many cases exceed their potential.”

Building on the success of an inspection that saw the school achieve excellent grades in all 3 Key Questions (and 13 out of 15 possible excellent grades overall), Mr Steven Mears, Chair of Governors stated “Today’s GCSE results are a product of the hard work and effort of the teaching staff and pupils.  These results clearly reflect the high standards of teaching that exist at Bryngwyn School and the continuous improvement that is being made.  As a Governing Body we are proud of the achievements of the pupils and will continue to work with the Headteacher and teaching staff to ensure Bryngwyn remains one of the top performing schools in Wales.”

Head Boy, Joshua Davies   (6A*’s and 4A’s grades) said “I am ecstatic, I have exceeded my expectations.  Exams are a very personal thing especially on results day, but I do feel that we, the staff and pupils at Bryngwyn, have been in this together.  Whatever happens in my future I will never really leave Bryngwyn.”

Head Girl, Sara Hicks (11A*’s and 1 B grade) said “This is amazing, it hasn’t really sunk in.  I feel relief that all the hard work has paid off.  I would like to give a big thank you to all the teachers at Bryngwyn for all their hard work and support.”
